Mission Statement

The mission of Social Justice Medicine is to demonstrate solidarity with underserved communities in the US and around the world through a collective interest and involvement in their healthcare.

Our major accomplishments from the 2007-2008 school year:

This year, SJM began collecting unused medical supplies from the families of deceased hospice patients. The supplies, which cannot be used in the US, were taken to Cuba and Chiapas, Mexico through The Inter-religious Foundation for Community Organization where underfunded medical providers can use them.

SJM also hosted a lecture by Dr. Stan Schaffer, a founding member of Maison de Naissance, a birthing home in rural Haiti. That lecture lead to a fundraiser and supply drive to support the clinic and a trip to Maison de Naissance for 8 post-bac students who assisted at the clinic and learned more about medicine in developing countries.
